Education: Promise 7: Rope all public primary schools into the school feeding programme within 2 years
To intoduce transparency and strenghten management of the School Feeding Programme; expand coverage to include all primary level education, the NDC promised to rope all public schools into the school feeding programme within 2 years.

6th Report January 2011
The School Feeding Programme secretariat is still compiling data on the increment in enrolment in beneficiary schools and has not started roping in new schools yet. This is contrary to the promise to rope all public schools into the programme within two years of the NDC administration.

5th Report October/November 2010
The School Feeding Programme secretariat is compiling data on the increment in enrolment in beneficiary schools and has not started roping in new schools yet. However, the 2011 budget revealed that 50 million Ghana cedis have been spent on the SFP and covered 670,000 pupils/beneficiaries.

4th Report September 2010
The logistics officer at the SFP secretariat said the actual figure is 658, 223 (and not 740,000 as stated last month) and has been increased to 673, 089. He is confident the number under the programme can increase to 1,040,000 as planned.

1st Report January - June 2010
The total number of public basic schools in Ghana is 32,993, with 11,827 being kindergartens, 13,510 primary and 7,656 junior high schools. (GES figures 2008/2009). The school feeding programme covers 1,691 public schools with a total pupils population of 658,585. (Source: Ghana School Feeding Programme secretariat, Accra). The programme is being piloted in selected public primary schools, and it covers pupils in the kindergarten and primary levels within the selected schools. The number of schools under trees is estimated to be 3,427 across the country, according to the information ministry.
The NDC promised to “Rope all public primary schools into the school feeding programme within 2 years in office”. However, the government is yet to take action on this promise.
