My Perception Of 2009 General Elections
The 2009 General Elections will be one of those elections that appear to be  heavily contensted. In the first place, we have  seen the former head of state Dr Bakili Muluzi, being stopped by  Malawi Electoral  Commission from contesting    for the third time as president. This was done in accordiance with the Malawi Constitution  whiuch stipulates that a presiednt shall only serve two consecutive terms.
One other interesting aspects  during the 2009 General Elections is that we have seen United Democtracti Front , a party being being led by Dr Bakili Muluzi  forming a 'coalition' with  Malawi Congress Party  of John Tembo.
This coalition came about  soon after MEC and declaired that Bakili Muluzi will not stand as a presidential candidate for UDF.The most intertesting  this about the coalition between UDF and  MCP is that it came againbst the backdrop of Dr Bakili Muluzi's  previous  campaingn messges  in 1999 amnd 2004  where he  accusedon John Tembo as a "murderer whose hands were full of blood'
On the other hand we  have seen the incumbet president Dr Bingu wa Mutharika  launching  his campaign in style. For the first time in the history of politicla party campaign  we  have seen  a presidential  candidate using buses and hammer vehicles as part of his campaing trail.
