Frustrated Politicians Condemned For Razing Development Projects

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and United Democratic Front (UDF) have condemned the conduct by some unsuccessful parliamentary elections candidates who have resolved to dismantle projects they implemented during the campaign period.
DPP’s Secretary General Henry Chimunthu Banda disassociated his party from such uncalled for acts saying all DDP candidates who goofed in the May 19 elections should humbly concede defeat.
However, Banda said the party has not received any reports indicating that some disgruntled DDP candidates are dismantling projects they implemented as part of their campaign to woe support in the just ended presidential and parliamentary elections.
He said it is high time that politicians realised that in politics one is there to serve people and not to make gains.
“As DDP we are disappointed to learn that such is happening because we feel Politicians should be able to dedicate their time and resources towards the development of the country rather than enhancing their personal gains,” Banda said.
Commenting when contacted on the same issue, the United Democratic Front (UDF) spokes person Robert Jamieson described the whole situation as unfortunate arguing the 2009 general elections unsuccessful parliamentary candidates to learn from others who did not do well in previous election but maintained discipline.
Unsuccessful parliamentary candidates from different political parties have been dismantling developmental programmes they implemented as one way of gunning support towards the May 19 elections soon after Malawi Electoral Commission announced official results.
Among the disgruntled MPs is Jimmy Banda from Blantyre City South who was denied the second term by an independent candidate Moses Kunkuyu Kalonga who took over the reigns.
