#Ghana Elections: Incumbent President Declared Winner
The Electoral Commisssion (EC) of Ghana in a much awaited press conference has declared John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress, President-elect based on the figures available to the EC after the 2012 general elections.
At the press conference held at the EC’s headquarters in Accra, December 9, 2012, the EC chairman, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan announced that John Dramani Mahama received 5,574,761 votes representing or 50.70%.
The main opposition party candidate Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had 5,248 898 of the votes or 47.74%, followed by Dr. Papa Kwedi Nduom of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) with 64,362 votes (0.59%).
The rest of the result are: Hassan Ayariga of the Peoples National Convention (PNC) had 24,617 (0.22%) of valid votes cast. Dr. Abu Sakara of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) had 20, 323 votes (0.18%) of valid votes cast. The Independent candidate, Jacob Osei Yeboah had 15,201(0.14%) with Henry Herbert Lartey of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) polling 14,744 votes (0.31%) of valid votes cast,
According to the EC total valid votes cast is 10,995,262 and 251,720 votes were rejected. The total turnout 79.43%.
