President Banda to Lead Carter Observer Mission to Kenya
Zambia’s former President, Rupiah Banda, has been appointed leader of a 50-man Carter Centre international observer mission for the March 4th general elections in Kenya.
According to a statement, released on Tuesday by Banda’s office, former US President Jimmy Carter, in a letter addressed to Banda, made special mention of Banda’s ability to add value to the Carter Centre delegation in Kenya.
President Carter said he was grateful to President Banda for his past service on election observer missions in Sierra Leone in 2012 and the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2011.
Apart from leading the Carter Centre missions to Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo, President Banda was also head of the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA) observer mission to the National Assembly elections in the Royal Kingdom of Lesotho in 2012.
