Zimbabwe: ZEC Chief Resigns
The Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), Retired Justice Simpson Victor Mutumbanengwe has turned in his resignation on health grounds. The Minister for Justice and Legal Affairs Patrick Chinamasa confirmed this saying that Justice Mutumbanengwe tendered his resignation yesterday.
This comes a few months before the referendum on the draft Constitution and harmonized elections slated for this year.
Justice Minister Chinamasa said that President Mugabe had accepted the resignation of Mr. Mutambanengwe, a retired judge who took the post after the controversial 2008 poll, the state-owned Herald newspaper reports, adding that his replacement would be chosen after discussions involving the coalition partners.
