Ruling Party claims victory in Djibouti Parliamentary Election

Djiboutian Interior Minister, Hassan Darar Houffaneh said on Saturday that the results from Friday’s Parliamentary elections showed that the Union for the Presidential Majority had won 49 out of 65 seats, adding that Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh's ruling party has claimed victory in the Red Sea state's parliamentary election, unofficial results indicate.

The opposition parties, which had joined forces to participate in the polls to end a 10-year boycott, rejected the election as flawed and said they planned to hold demonstrations.

The spokesman of the opposition Union of National Salvation,Daher Ahmed Farah says the election was rigged, adding that results were declared too quickly and there were reports of ballot-stuffing and double voting stating that "It is a joke that does not match the reality of what took place in the capital and in the regions of the interior’’.

Daher Ahmed Farah added that the results were announced at 5:00a.m. when the polls closed at 7:00 p.m. is quite significant. The regime has cooked it and the Djiboutian population will take note.

Guelleh's family has ruled the country of about 920,000 people, since independence from France in 1977.
